How much rust does your AU have?
I put it to you all, that unless yours is an excellently kept example, it will have rust, somewhere So we can compare, i've put in a poll Let me know if it's not comprehensive I'm having a hard time deciding whether to go with 'at least 3 spots' and 'lots'.

None that I know of, but being a ute miss out on boot strut and under tail light problem areas.

my white au had rust in the back where the water bools on the lip of the boot (where the boot strut mounting points and that place its just a joke
and id hate to see what it looks behind the back bumper ill see when i pull it off :( the silver one i know if 2 places just on the boot strut mounting points (only a little) and the Seam in the Bay where the ID is stamped into the body thats it

tiny bit around the boot struts mounts and thats it..
i've had the bars off and stuff before and there was no hidden nasty's.. How can you fix the rust in the strut mounts..? is it as easy as grind it back a little and paint or do you need to remove the mounts from the body completely..??

If you have an AU (no matter how well you look after it) get it on a hoist and carefully check the inner sills at the front. The rust was found in mine after a yearly rego check recently. Could not see it by just looking under the sill while the car was on the ground.
Drivers side required a plate welded in. Passenger side just required a clean up and a reseal/proofing. Repairer said the he is starting to see this problem on AU's now they are getting to be 10 or so years old. |

None that I know of and none that I can see when I'm in,under and around the cars but both have ERPSs' fitted.

Hi,
None that I can see. Boot strut mounting points collect a lot of muck & get special treatment when washing,so are the front guard drains. Frd906's mates car - looks more like acid spillage??? Was the damage local to that area only? Cheers, George |

Current Falcon wagon has a little bit behind the door rubber (above the left rear door), same at the tailgate rubber. Not too bad.
My last one was a shocker, ex taxi in a coastal city, was everywhere, under parcel tray, under front and rear windscreens, under all the door rubbers, under the boot rubber, boot strut mounts has rusted off, every part of the inner cells had been patched up over the years, pretty poor when I compare it to my 1989 E34 BMW which has been exposed to the same conditions, for ten years longer and not a spot of rust. |

Mines got two spots on the boot, down the bottom on each side of the number plate.
Damn spoiler seems to let water in when it rains, and it pools in the boot lip bit so when you open the boot you get water running out straight into the boot. But since I don't really open the boot much, it tends to sit there and pool and rust. Even pulled the rubber "plug" things out from the bottom of the bit where it pools, and still it collects.

My TE has a few small patches in some of the "common" or "usual" spots.
1. small patch under one of the rear spoiler mounting points on the boot lid - treated and painted 2. surface rust in door jamb where door rubber had worn through paint - treated and painted 3. gas strut mount in boot jamb - treated and painted 4. underside edge of the bonnet - yet to be dealt with... Most of these bits I've found you wouldn't have known they were there unless you looked for them, like I did. Usually by the time rust creeps it's head out and becomes visible it's pretty much on it's way to making a pretty decent repair job. It's where you can't see that paint coverage wasn't great, moisture collects and then rust grows. Hence actively looking for it regularly and treating suspect areas BEFORE it becomes a problem. |

Hey Frd906, I think ure car must have been a Gold coaster. Only way for it to look like that.
Until i started working on taxi's i didn't know how bad falcons acctually rust. We buy Repairable Write off's and repair them and put them on the road as taxis. The amount of rust that is presant on falcons 6 months on, when the various sections are separated (spot welds drilled and section by section removed) is unbelievable. The 05 toyota avalon we bought however 2 years old at that time, no rust what so ever, not even between the panels where they overlap and are spot welded. Shame about the mechanicals. The toyota just cant handle being a taxi. My Au has rust on both rear lower wheel arches(closest to the rear doors) and as stated before bettween all overlaped steel body sections, and also quiet bad rust on the inside C pillars for some reason (only found this when i stripped the interior). |

also the battery tray rust was caused by the acid leak from the battery

The only rust I can find on mine is some bubbling below the rear number plate.
My fault for fooling around with all manner of "fixes" for water in the boot (actually it was in the boot and on me when I opened the boot. Water got in past the rubber and was trapped under boot lid cover). Replaced the boot rubber = no more water in the boot (or on me). |

my 01 ute has just a couple bits of surface rust from stone chips (now painted), and on the boot hinge, theres a tiny dab of rust. nothing im worried about. but ill clean it up with kill rust and spray it all the same.

the spot welds under the wiper motor are rusted and was leaking till i put silicon on them. It's a ute so no boot problems

I have a smallish bit about the size of a 50c peice just behind the front drivers wheel, where there would be the mud flaps (I don't have any)
