Hey everyone.
I just upgraded from my 91 Laser to an 02 Focus CL. First of all, wanna say Loving it. It handles so nice, just wants to fly around corners just a tid bit quicker too I have (had) two problems that I need to fix. The first I have fixed - The cigarette lighter fuse was blown, couldnt find the fuse box - Thanks to Tj for the awesome description in the other thread of how to get to it behind the glovebox . The next one I suspect will be a little harder to fix. The drivers side air vent does not work. No air comes out, no matter what setting it is on. Any suggestions or thoughts? : Oh just a little tid bit too, well - giving into peer pressure I put a pod on it, um lol its just silly... but in all seriousness I ordered a rear swaybar :hihi: Question - Has anyone put on a front strut brace? For my vintage they only come for the 2.0L Zetec -> Im guessing that things are arranged a little differently as it looks like the fusebox will get in the way and there is verry little bonnet clearance. |

Sounds like the flap on the drivers vent is broken.

The xr5s have a strut brace.
However, being a completely different engine it's possible that it wont fit. If you check out this thread: http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11270595 That dude is wrecking a whole XR and provided it isn't damaged you might be able to pick it up cheap. Failing that, if you're willing to hand over the beans, European parts have one : http://www.european-parts.net/catalo...roducts_id=817 Funnily enough it says it will fit all MKII foci including the XR, so perhaps picking up that xr brace isn't a silly idea.

Except a 2002 CL is an LR Focus.
There are strut braces available, but they provide little assistance. The LR Focus is a very stiff chassis as it is, and there is little to be gained by linking the strut towers. From memory, the Focus was something like 30% stiffer than a WRC Escort. If you must have one, here is a start: http://focus.c-f-m.com/index.asp?Pag...S&Category=305 IMHO you'd be better off upgrading the springs and/or Anti roll bars (Eibach are good) than spending money on a strut brace Regarding the air vent, if the flap is stuck, you should be able to check by pulling the vent straight out: here's a how to: http://www.focushacks.com/index.php?modid=9&ht=Removal of vent pieces And welcome to the Forum!!!! The LR Focus is a great car. I'm glad you're already enjoying the handling

Thanks for all your input guys!
Regarding the strut/support issues - all make sense. Like I said I'm going to go for rear sway first up, the strut was just a question as my friend and I looked at it and thought that the fusebox was in a place - very little clearance for a strut. Thanks melbzetec for the link on how to get the air vent out - I popped it out in about 30 seconds but the flap wasnt the problem! Pulling the cent out however did lead me to discover the problem. I turned the heater on stuck my hand in there and felt around for where the hot air was coming from... and I found it! Took the kick panel off so I could pop it back into place properly... hope it doesnt come loose again... The kick panel brings me to another question, wtf is this? hrm - I seem to be failing at trying to resize these images... Last edited by Orchadis; 31-08-2009 at 04:44 PM. |
