why is some old git who has lost the plot labelled as a hoon. The word is used way too much to cover any/every sort of traffic offence.

Problem;
The word "hoon" needs to be defined.
Perhaps the bloke (or sheila) in charge could wack it in the 2010 edition of the dictionary.
Then, and only then, will we be able to clearly define a "hoon".

Its wide open country with long sight distances, unless his seeing eye dog is that blind, then this possibility doesn't exist.

One cannot assume the recorded speed is a constant;- that runs steady for kilometres on end. Most people will vary the speed according to conditions, they will back off the accelerator on approach to curves etc, then pick it up again on the departure.

Some who are speed-limit conditioned, will stick at 'the limit' come what may and do come unstuck.

My old boss, goes to Italy and up through to Denmark each year to source furniture, she's 67 now, of speed and traffic here; 'Australian's just can't get it right can they?"!

Anyhow, if he's been doing this for years - he's survived up to now. Guess he misses (//).

Didn't this happen on a country road, so about the only thing that would be wondering onto the hwy would be stray cattle or wildlife.

In the paper it said something about the man not realising he was going that quick. He also said his 1999 Magna had surprising power and

I'd say he's owned a few crap cars if the Magna is the best he's had.

I doubt he could have mistakenly gone 160km/h. At some stage, some of us have gone that fast and it definitely feels different and the car works a bit harder too.

He's accepted he's in the wrong and will cop whatever penalties he's up for. But the police sergeant said he didn't see them until they were within 150m, so his eyesight isn't too good - especially not good enough to deal with hazards at 160km/h

eHe was probably going that speed just to stay aleart and awake.
I used to go away skiing nearly every weekend durnig the warmer months up to the riverina region. Many a late friday and Sunday night was spent travelling the back highways from or towards Melbourne. I took the back roads as it was safer to do the higher speeds so I would stay wide awake.
Get on the hume or the northern hwy and it was sleepy time at 100.

I know people in their 20's that have slow reactions and can't see jack.
Go to Europe and you will see plenty old dudes sitting on 200 km/h plus. ones you get you eye in to perceive what it's all about, it will become OK. and you will not freak out any more.
Aussies are manly lazy dopey drivers that don't concentrate on the road.
Some years ago we had narrow bridge roads and trucks use to pass on them no problem. but now days the bloody same old bridge is a one way only with a give way sign.
