Default Strange wheel Phenomenons...

Can someone please explain how on earth its "cool" or looks "good" to have stock black steel wheels on the back of your beautiful high performance XR or SS or Clubsport??
I mean it compromises grip, handling and looks crap....
I don't understand why you'd own a car like that and basically cripple its looks and handling..

Doesn't it have to do with illegal burnouts?

i asked that same question not too long ago...saw a black maloo, which looked good but the one thing that was letting it down were the steelies on the back...i asked the owner, why he didnt put the same rims he had on the front..and his reply was "i do burnouts"...one of my mates also said that, the steelies on the back look, is suppssd to mean that vehicle is a burnout out machine ...i agree with you, that look is horrible!

and its tryhard and a cop magnet. I got pulled over the first day I had one black steelie on my xr8 ute which was actually due to a flat tyre. The first thing the cop did was walk around the other side and see if that was a steelie aswell :

Is it just me, or would it be the equivalent of waving a 10m x 10m I AM A HOON flag in front of the police?

Also, I agree, it looks like crap, would be a massive compromise and did I mention that it looks like crap?

Yeah, but isn't that usually because the $20 K-mart wheel covers fell off?

They only really need one stock rim on the back. Its only going to peel one wheel any way.

The look is crap.

Like a mangy dog with worms dragging its bum on the ground.

I always thought the nose down big wheels on the back drag car style was the go.

Who cares ,I look back at some things I did in the 70/80s that I thought where cool now I think I was a tool, each to there own. We slag off at ricers but some of the things they do are quite inovative. The young ones probably look at me with my centers and think to themselves get with the times. If we all do the same thing the car scene would be a bloody boring place.

maybe its cause they have trouble "turning the tyres" so the skids they do leave their tyres like rolling 50c pieces???

It's my pet hate at the moment. I know if I was a copper I'd pull them over every time and check for shredded rubber in the wheel arches. Then I'd look for ANY reason to defect them.

Can't have them burning out those 20" Wanli's or Nankangs can we......

They're often known as your 'drift set' or 'burnout set'.

My brother has a done up VT and he busted a tyre on his rear mag so he replaced it with one of his old pursuit rims, and thought that to be properly legal he put another one on the other side. Got pulled over by the cops, told them that, they went well done son, seeya later.

I can understand it at places like The Summernats for cars entering the burnouts, or whatever, but when I see a car on the street with that look I cringe every time.

Personally I hate the look. Especially on P Plater cars.
