Surprised the pursuit cars in WA don't have bullbars, not that I think it would have mattered in that instance.
Did the roo make it? |

I've been doing a few country runs and so far have seen 2 roos at once dart infront of me hit the gravel and then try and get traction and head for the other side of the road. If one does decide to jump infront of me though there is no way i'd be swerving thats for sure.

The absolute best thing to do if a roo jumps out in front of you is to threshold brake and hit it. Swerving can get you in all kinds of dramas.

Wombats and wallaby's hit even harder then that, they make a huge mess.
Best thing to do if one jumps out in front of you is hit the skids as hard as u can while maintaining control and keeping it straight.

I wonder if the conversation went anything like this? :hihi:
HWP..........HWP 4 to base, over. BASE.........Base receiving. HWP..........I’ve hit one of the locals, over. BASE.........Agggh, not again. Is it a fatality? HWP..........Affirmative. BASE.........Any witnesses? Over. HWP..........Negative on that. BASE.........Much damage? HWP..........Metal damage, brain damage. BASE.........You’ve got to stop watching Mad Max, over. HWP..........What do you want me to do? BASE.........Try and clean up the body and make it look like an accident before one of the elders finds out. HWP..........What? I think that you’ve misunderstood my transmission. I’ve actually clobbered a kangaroo. BASE.........Oh, that’s a change. How far did you have to go off the road before you got him? HWP..........I didn’t this time. He actually jumped out in front of me while I was driving on the bitumen. BASE.........Bull***t… really? HWP..........Affirmative. BASE.........That’ll make the paperwork easy for a change. BASE…….....It’s a shame. That car only had three days to go before retirement.

A certain feral cop in central NSW could not resist the temptation to have some crazy fun. This particular cop had a very strange sense of humour One occasion when a silencer was confiscated from someone who had recently visited South Australia (where silencers were legal at the time) he thought he would use it to take care of the local dog population. He and a colleague decided to visit the local Aboriginal Mission one very hot evening around 3am. The colleague was told about how much fun it would be to sneak out there in the middle of the night and test the silencer on the local indigenous population's very large mob of dogs. The colleague drove and the particular cop took care of half a dozen dogs from half a dozen shots. He was a crack shot obsessed with reloading cases/cartridges and shooting foxes from the paddy wagon on nightshift in winter when pelts fetched a handsome price (but thats another story). He then handed the rifle over to the driver so the driver could join in the fun (but not before he stealthily removed the silencer) to have first shot. Can you imagine the sound on a still night? Can you imagine the shock the driver got? Can you imagine the tribe wondering next morning how one bullet (thats all anyone heard) killed 7 dogs? That cop did many many many crazy things and it was 20 yeras later that he got dischared as "hurt on duty". The funny thing was that all the crazy things he had done over the years came out in the inquiry into whether he was mentally fit actually helped his case to be pensioned off as the decision makers were basically convinced he was nuts. This is just one such TRUE story and maybe if ever someone starts a thread on crazy but true stories I might tell you some more. BTW His middle son is a leading sports figure in 2008 |

I've been hit by roos 3 times. I say hit by because in all three cases I spot the bugger, slow right down to like 20km/h till i know what the hell it's doing, when they decide to dive head first onto the side of my car
This has happened 3 times! un-freakin-believable

Got a panadol Sarge?
Big hit. Wrote off a car hitting one once. Had a Shu-Roo after that and no probs, still saw prenty though - just not suicidal ones. Emu's hurt too! Yeah, don't swerve though. Second the roo's hitting cars though. Not sure why that is. I had a mate in a Festiva clear pushed off the road as one bounded into his rear quarter. Must have taken a disliking to the colour?
