Default Interesting comparo-xr6 Turbo-AU pursuit250

Just got back from a run from Blue Mountains to Inverell and return. Myself in the pursuit and the mate in his XR6 turbo ute.

RESULT- 4.0 XR6 turbo ute used 9.6% more fuel than the 5.6 AU Pursuit250

Both cars weighed around the same and we drove one behind the other exchanging the lead car from time to time. Both filled to the brim at start and all litres recorded when filled to brim at finish. Both over took in the same manner(flat stick). The putty rd was dry and we pushed harder through there than I usually do and between singleton and uralla was hwy driving and between uralla and inverell was a mix with some lengthy cruising between 130 and 140 on straights.

All I can say is V8's Rule and go the AU's

Both running 18's with 245/40's they accelerate fairly much on a par (hal really knows how to keep that turbo on song)
Hals is tiptronic auto which he drives like manual when overtaking to keep on song and mine is manual

Very interesting indeed, aside from whatever variables involved.

Do you know what the actual fuel numbers were?

Rick.

pursuit average over around 600kmm was at 11.30 L/100km and turbo was 12.49 L/100km. Worked it from the bottom up on calculator (pursuit used 90.47% of turbo's fuel usage so on double figures 100-90.47=9.53.
Depending on what you round off and if you work out who used more or who used less these figures change, they can be fiddled just like your tax by a good accountant.

magic figures were 11.30 Vs 12.49 work it out which ever way you want.

Turbo is BA 4sp auto.

What are your typical figures during daily driving, and then on the highway at a constant 100-110?

Rick.
Going to melbourne I got down as low as 9.6 L/100km and I average going to work 12.5 L/100km

Withregard to 4sp auto VS 5sp manual well thats what they made them in cant change that. A comparo of two vehicles taken as is compared with the gearbox they were made with. I did state that they are about the same weight but when it comes down to tin tacs the pursuit is a heavier vehicle and I had a 35lt fridge in the tray and a heap of tools compared to a light foam matress in the turbo. Like I said lots of variables but none that would account for such a huge variance. I put it down to Hal at 130 to 140 km/h would have probably had the turbo on song revving at somewhere between 3 and 4 grand where the tall 5th in the pursuit had me at around 2500 revs I doubt very much there would have been too much difference with a 5sp manual turbo as I feel it is that extra boost and fuel at speed that does it.

We have to remember that we are comparing the ol 4sd auto here to a 5sd manual, I would assume the manual would come out on top.
