Default Cam in my AU --- Saturday :)

So good ole Joe from CMS in Liverpool talked me into being his guinea pig for his Stg2 Cam to see if it can run on the stock AU ECU.

Basically i will be his "told you so" vehicle He has been telling everyone forever that his stg2 cam will work on an AU without a chip/edit, but there have been a load of naysayers!

He is 100% confident that it will work

He already has an AU LPG Ute running around with his Stg2 cam (Apparently LPG is less reliant on the ECU?)

So, Cam goes in this Saturday, dynoing before and after

Expected to run like a dog for about 3-4 days, then by midweek after ECU re-learns itself, should be sweet

Looking forward to it :

Will post up my results

Can't you reset the ECU to smarten up the process of relearning?

i'll be watching this thread with a lot of interest, if it works out chances are i'll buy one too the stage 3, he reckons that will just run on the factory E.C.U until you get it in for a flash tune. I reckon resetting the computer when i put my old crow cam in sent the car into a wild confussed state, dont reset if you have to do from my paSt experiences.

see how the stg2 goes in your car, would be a bonus if it runs on factory ecu nicely, there cheap i reckon as well.

That will be Mechan1k's ute. It's a guinea pig for the Stg 2 LPG cam which is based on the Stg 2 cam but has some optimisation for LPG (less LSA for one).

I'll be interested to see how it goes, the Stg 2 LPG cam kicks in fairly low and breathes better all the way to redline. Hopefully one of these will play nicely with a belt-driven hair dryer...

Yep, yep Simon's ute

I think originally it was set to kick in around 2100-2200, then he had it dialled back to kick in at 1800, to come in when the stall converter locked up. I remember him saying up steep hills it had enough torque to go all the way up in last gear, didnt have to change down at all.

Joe is a deadset champ. I know next to nothing about cars and he takes the time to explain everything to me. I will be spending many thousands of dollars there in my lifetime

He really concentrates on E-Series cam jobs, cuz that's where most of the demand is and boy have they proven effective!! Easily outperforms JMM's DEV5.

I think i will be the first petrol AU to get one of his cams. Joe doesn't do any 5L cams as there are plenty of good ones out there he says. The reason why he does i6 cams cuz he reckons all the others are shite

Totally agree, i mean, i started going to his place cuz someone on this forum or fordmods said it was the only person they have ever heard 100% positive feedback about. First time going there, he was a top bloke explained everything, suggested a couple of things, went back a week later to get those minor things done and he asked me to volunteer for his stg2 cam. HELL YEAH!

There is a trick to getting an AU cam right, especially for an untouched computer. Some grinders have found their E-series profiles aren't very happy in the AU. I don't know the trick BTW, or I'd be cashing in!

One tip, if the idle gets gradually lumpier and richer over a period of 2-3 weeks it may be worth changing the oxy sensor. If you need to do so, you might be able to pick a genuine Ford one up for $60-odd on ebay, otherwise an aftermarket one for $100-120 from the likes of Repco or Supercheap etc. Much better than $400 from Ford!

I got a genuine bosch one new for cheaper than that (posted too) on ebay. I'm reasonably sure the seller was efiparts.

I was chatting to Joe yesterday as I was working on the ute there.
And he mentioned you were coming in to get it done.

I also mentioned a trick to trying an resolve the ECU spazz when trying to relearn as well. Will be interesting to see how it goes ... I'll be back there on Monday to pick something up anyway ... so will see how things work.

I picked up my Ford O2 sensor from ebay for $55 ... took 5 min to replace ... easy.

Will have to see what Joe dial's the cam in like ... and where you want the power to really come in. Will be interesting to test it out on an AU ... and see if Joe's grind does work.

Ummmm ... there was a mentione about XR8 cams ... Joe doesn't do a grind for it ... he mentioned to me that there are already decent cams out there for them and it was no real need for him to make one ... will ask when i am there next to see which one he thinks is best.

The Stg 2 cam has been in 1 year exactly in my AU ... I just checked my Build thread ... took me a while to find it ... it's on page 13 at the top.

Nah, yours is lowered too much! He needs a typical example of a wagon - sky high, dirty, scratched, dented, neglected and abused. Hey, that's my car!

Dammit!

The cam which he got grinded was actually the wrong grind! So now, he has to get a new grinded cam which could take upto 2 weeks or so :( He was not very happy!

Ah well..

My car pulled 123rwkw on his dyno, a REAL dyno

Not too bad

Joe's dyno is always a bit optimistic, but 123rwkw or thereabouts is a good starting base. Will be interesting to see the gain from the cam.

ummmm ... Joe's dyno actually reports less than a lot of others I have been to around Sydney ... Joe has lower figures and a lot of people complain about it.

Ask Stav ... his wagon ran 133rwkw on Joe's rollers. It's a lot quicker than that over the 1/4

Most of the time other dynos will report 15-20rwkw more than Joe's.

Joe wasn't happy about it when I spoke to him today ... he was about the install it and checked the specs on it ... and noticed they ground it LPG specs with larger Lobe Seperation ... not suited to petrol all the much.
