Has anyone had the chance to read the latest write up in the Motor mag I think it was , Maloo supercharged 422Kw 728Nm and the XR8 390Kw 500Nm.
Important Figures are Maloo 0-100kph 5.3 1/4mile 13.3.. XR8 0-100 6.5 1/4mile 14.5sec. Based on those figures it's very dissapointing to same the least. A stock XR8 would of been quicker. :togo:

6.5 seconds for an XR8 with close to 400Kw?? And only 500Nm? Doesn't sound right.

Do you mean 290kw? Pretty sure 500nM is the stock figure

Yeah I thought the same thing when I read that. Especially when the Herrod kit is around fifteen grand. Quite slow indeed for that kind of coin.

those figures are all a bit out for the ford. a std boss 260 has 500nm so thats not right. acceleration figures are also std looking.
haven't read the article so won't comment on bias. often when the times are a little off they do give a reason for it. i'm not one of those guys who gets upset when ford don't win every comparo. driving cars is more than straight line speed. |

XR8 IS 260KW The Maloo is what how much?
Shouldn't they be comparing a Super Pursuit to a Maloo?

Obviously wheelspin stops them running a decent time. Both cars delivered figures that are about the same as stockers would get. Feathering the throttle to get traction must be a foreign concept to Motor.

I've read the whole story. It's just another "MOTOR" infomercial for Holden. It was a wet track and the only reason the Holden got a "better" 1/4 mile time was that it has 22" wheels (less slippage). We all know how hard it is to get a car with a bit of grunt off the line when it's wet. I might add the front cover showed both vehicles, but wait ... the Maloo image was in front of the XR8 image and twice as big ... funny about that. Had to laugh though ... a reader's letter complained about the predominance of Holden front covers. I don't usually buy this extension of Holden publicity masquerading as a motor magazine, but I've been laid up with a crook back and asked my wife to buy me something to read. LOL. |

thats why they went the 260 path. looking at that it may be better to purchase a 290 and install bolt ons. But as spoolman said they should of had a SP vs the maloo , or XR8 vs SS, very holden sided mag.. But how good does the GTR look and perform, cant wait for it to be released on sale.

Guys guys they're both modded, it wasn't a manufacturer write up but an "tuner" one if you will. I flicked through it but didn't buy the mag, rather boring this month. I must admit, those figures definitely sound a bit off.

36 deg day and slipery track was their excuse, it just goes to show how much heat plays havoc with forced induction engines..

also unless they had the engines out and on an engine dyno (possible) the quoted flywheel figures will be no more than educated guesses. the 500nm for the xr8 is obviously not flywheel. maybe they just quoted the stock figure as they didn't have a modded figure
or... maybe the ford had a higher nm figure than the maloo so they decided to edit it. jk! what style supercharger did herrod run on the xr8? whipple? intercooled? guess i should just find a newsagent huh. |

Here's more of their bad times... 14.4 in FPV GT 14.2 in FPV F6 Typhoon 13.36 in Lamborghini Gallardo 12.4 in Porsche 911 Turbo (996) 14.5 in SVT Cobra (01, SN95, 322hp 4.6) There are more... but those examples spring to immediate memory...

Yeah I read this and unfortunately it just shows how biased they are towards Holden and more importantly away from Ford. The 500nm torque figure is absolutely ridiculous and an intentional 'slip-up'.
I think i've had enough of them now.

I tried to keep a level head with all the accusations of MOTOR being Holden biased lately, Even when the spy pictures of the ute made the front page, but what tipped it over the edge for me was when the same bloke wrote 2 articles in 1 issue.
1 article "The F6 R-Spec is definately not a racer and is not good around a track blah blah", ok fair enough, a few pages over. "The handling on the new Holden ute is supurb, its like a proper track car"....... Wtf? Holden SS ute out handle F6 R-Spec?
