Another GT stolen in Perth

Couple of weeks ago we had a HO stolen from a panel shop (owners car) valued at about $600 grand.
Just saw on the news tonight a XY GT has was been knocked off from a private residence valued at $250 grand.

Anyone out there who is lucky enough to own one of these better make sure their security is up to par. I'm sure anyone who has one is careful with security but it might be wise to improve it.

There's obviously a market out there and scum are sussing them out with the view to steal them.

Well I guess thats one problem in life I'll never have to worry about (unfortunately).

honestly what do they plan to do with them?
they cant sell anything, they cant take it to anything related to the gt clubs etc...
and they wont bre able to sell it in 15 years cause there will be a police report on them...
its useless...

Probably in a shipping continer destined for OS by now...
I know of a standard XY GT and the only security there is 100k's of dirt, some cows, multiple sheepdogs and the hayshed shading it from the rays.

It still would be pretty tough to get it out of the country in a sea container, surely immigration check everything that goes in and out of the ports...

Customs, not immigration, and still not even close. They dont have the time or manpower. Although the new xray stuff will improve that.

Customs (and Quarentine) combined inspect - that is actually open up - less than 5 percent of sea freight in / out of Aus.

The real figure is closer to 2 % !!!!!!!!!

That comes from people I deal with in AQIS and Customs.

Maybe like stolen art, end up inside a private residence and be merely looked at and admired, never driven again. Know I'd like a room in my house with a Hoey in it!

Strip for parts.

Rudd should introduce the Death penalty for car thieves. It'd solve multiple problems. Insurance would drop, we'd be able to enjoy our cars without wondering if the street lights were bright enough where we parked the car and organ and blood donors would suddenly appear meaning these scum would give more to the community than they were otherwise capable of.

But seriously, if you have one these cars, you have to be so careful. We all comuinicate like friends on theses forums but you don't know me, I don't know you and it is foolish for either of us to really trust one another.

Seriously, you can’t secure one of these cars with a bloody Club lock and still expect it to be there the next day. With the ridicules increase in the “so called value” of these things, I wonder how many people have them insured for what they’re perceived to be worth? Yes, Mr Bloggs. We’ll insure your GT HO for $650,000. That will be $55,000 a year, but only if you meet our new requirements put in place especially for these rare vehicles.

You can’t get insurance for a WRX in NSW unless it has some type of tracking device fitted, so why don’t insurance companies require this from the owners of these cars?

Most businesses that deal with expensive cars have bollards in their driveways to prevent the unauthorised movement of vehicles. In the grand scale of things, they’re not really that expensive.

Thats it. The price of these cars are so overpriced, its not funny, and with that comes the increased chance they will be pinched. They are more of a target.

They were targets as far back as the early 70's/80's
Things have been going missing pretty easy latley..
If i owned one, it would be impossible to steal, wonder what security measures these blokes have been taking?

I think the answer to that is that the people that own these rare cars would rather die than have to drive their car out the driveway and out.005 of a km on the clock.
I could guarantee that to drill a couple of little holes in the engine bay to fit alarms and GPS devices have never crossed their minds because of the chance it may no longer be so original and fetch the bug bucks at auction that they are pushing for.

These are the people that make me laugh.
Hopefully now, others take more care in where they leave their pride and joy. As has been said, the car is in a million pieces by now, shell a different color, ID tags, long gone etc etc.
Its got me buggered, it's like stealing a famous painting, how the hell are you supposed to off load it without getting done?!

I seriously doubt theyre ALL legit thefts, a few have been passed in at auction so I wonder if insurance values exceed auction prices. Who knows.

I have my XW sitting at the panel shop right now and heaps of people have seen it down the back under cover ... I suspended my insurance on it as its at the shop(last 8 mths) ... if something happens to it would it be on the panel shops insurance ? .... Some one know for sure ...

This has me a bit worried now .

As for all these thefts it will make parts harder to get (legit parts) ..
I hope they get these cars back .. It would suck to put all that time and money into a car just to have some scum steal it .

About 10 years ago a HO was stolen from a garage in North Wollongong....does not sound all that interseting.

The garage was seperate to the house, included on the home alarm, and having a seperate stand alone as well.
The HO was at the back of the garage, in front was a XB four door, in front of that an ESP. On the outside hard up against teh roller door, was a EA. The guy went on holidays for a week. Returned, and three days later went into the garage...... HO was gooooooone, and other cars replaced exactly back into posistion.

Insurance company claimed inside job. Major crime squad becaome involved and discoverd alarms had been hacked.....Insurers backed down.

I have a funny feeling some of these cars are part of pay back .Not saying this one is in anyway but others I have heard some whispers around .

Sad anyway you look at it .Its now another important car lost for no good reason .

You should ask the panel shop if they have your car there at your own risk (most have signs up saying so or it is on the paperwork they usually give you in regards to the work being done on your car.

Not to many panel shops (mechanics etc) would have your vehicle covered on their insurance. Seriously you shouldn't have suspended your insurance and personally I would be ringing your preferred insurance company up asap and get the car re-insured. Just tell the insurance company where the car is and why and there shouldn't be a problem.

Cars get burnt out for 2 reasons - If they've either been used in a crime or for insurance in my experience. No noddy car thief taking it for a joyride is going to bother taking it all the way out to gnangara or wherever just to burn it.

True, but with the advances in DNA technology, thieves can't take a chance that a hair wont be found in the car so torch it and get rid of any possible evidence. Also covers up if the owner did it.
But in this case I'd say someone who owns a GT would not deprive the world of another one by burning it, if they're that desperate for cash, sell it, there's plenty of buyers out there, even if the prices are sky high.
Every week I see ads for "Wanted to buy GT, any condition".
Thats my 2 cents worth. Who ever burnt it I hope karma catches up with them, fookers.

Yeah dude most workshops dont have insurance for your car, and there will be a sign somewhere in the shop stating that all care given, no responsibility taken.
The premiums are way to high for most workshops to get

Ring your guys up, ask, and then reinstate your insurance if they do not cover it

maybe the stolen HO's are still driving around, who's to say the theif doesn't throw rego on it from a different XY and paint it just a plain colour, he know's what it is but know one else does.

Get laid up insurance. Places like shannons offer this for while your car is being restored or off the road for major work. The premium cost is a percentage guaged on the total value of the car, or an agreed value and is much less than all other insurances.

Thats Who I was insured with . I rang them up Agers ago to put it on hold as it has been sitting for a long time . and I thought it was coved by the panel beater ... I cant wait now to get it home..

I have my XW in a Shed with s alarm system (cheap) but it lets me know inside the house if a door is opened . and my house has cctv system anyway that also covers the hole back yard ... As of that my home and content insurance and all my car insurance are cheaper then before.
