Hi guys,
I've just purchased and picked up a XC Fairmont from Orange in NSW. It currently has rego in NSW till Jan 2008. Both the previous owner and I have filled out our parts of the transfer papers but what now? Do I just take my bit to vic roads and present it there? and will I need to provide a Current Vic RWC? Any help much appreciated Cuz

The nsw rego is not worth anything in victoria. The car will require a full rwc and to be rergistured in vic.
To vicroads the car may as well be unrego'd.

Being registered in NSW still all the papers are done you shouldnt have a problem.
I brang a car from qld to nsw unreg, got a blue slip, gave the rta a copy of the sales receipt & thats all it took to be on road. |

But this vehicle is Registered so unless you can get some sort of credit for the NSW Rego I would drive it around till it is close to the time it runs out & then change it, & yes think you are meant to change it within a period of time. |

You ring the RTA and cancel the plates and they send you a cheque for the balance of the rego. Then you go into Vicroads with an RWC and register the car, just like you would any unregistered vehicle.

yep, need a roadworthy ($66) which seems to be the nsw equivelant of a blue slip, so they go right thru the car. Than take it to vic roads (they may want you to make an appointment), you can hand in the nsw plates there and re-rego it. But its all a bit of a pain and some roadworthy places can be overly picky cos they can.

Hey Cuz,
give vicroads a call, thay will help you. You need to make an appointment for them to check the vin/engine numbers. If the car is rego'd to you in NSW the process is easier, I dont think you need the RWC, and also no stamp duty. You will need to provide full proof of purchase. Be nice to them and they will be nice in return, they dont make the rules, but its a PIA! |

it's so much easier if you own the car and move into vic. just rock up with the rego slip (from your old state) and proof of residence (rent receit), surrender you plates and it's all done, oh yeah and the $$$$
