Anyone at the dyno day would of seen this, but here's a photo for the world to see. And ricerbarn sold the right globes so I no longer have clear globes that had been dipped in orange paint.

They look funny, not quite clear, but murky? Still I like it, would be interested to know how it was done.
A bit off topic but where can I get a rear window sticker like that?

Looks good mate, got any night shots ?
I wonder what it would look like if you painted the red reflecting bit that separates your brakelights & indicators the colour of your car. Last edited by Olympus; 06-02-2005 at 11:31 AM. |

Wayne, are the NA taillights like the EB/ED taillights, where they have a grey lens and an orange filter?

Looks great rob. I was a fan of the whole smoky look even with the amber. The clear just sets it off.

Yeah I'll give my secrets away, although 200 quid a set sounds good!
The garnish was fairly easy, you can split the clear outer from the inner with a knife if you are REALLY careful. I chipped a bit off but it isn't too bad. Once it's apart it's just a matter of painting the orange bit. The tailights aren't as easy. Both those lights are actually broken (notice the clear race tape all over the LHS). On the right hand side I tried smashing the orange lense up with a screwdriver, which works pretty well until you get to the curve in the light and you can't reach. I might try getting a cheapo screwdrive I can bend and slide in there. As it stands I put a hammer through the backing and lense to do it. I set about the RHS with intentions of getting two lights, smashing the backing on one and the lense on the other then making one light. Easier said than done. The lense was a piece of **** to smash up. On both lights actually. Breaking the backing up is hard. I used a hammer and angle grinder (probably should of used the air saw at work), but when breaking the bits around the glue the lense is weaker so you have to be VERY carefull. Needless to say, I ended up breaking the lense with a hammer, again. I'd already played around with a leaking light I had in the shed, the lense on that was the least broken, so I glued and taped it and whacked it on. It's a total bastard to get an even fit, obviously different parts of lense are stuck to the body after you smash them, you've gotta rid the body of EVERY piece of lense. So right now I've gotta go bend a screwdriver and get another tail light to play with. That or pay $200 for two tail lights.....ummmmm no. Good news is you can get orange globes that fit off the shelf from Autobarn, $2.95 for the pair. I had a clear gobe that I dipped in orange paint, it was more pink than orange. |

Still a top notch effort, I'd rather break a few than pay $200 for them. When you said you had to paint the rear garnish, wat did you paint it with, just normal grey paint? I'm a Fairmont owner myself so I wanna do the whole lot.
