WHEN I WAS A BOY I USED TO GO SWIMMING AND PIG OUT ON RED ROOSTER . I USED TO GO FISHING AND USE CHICKEN GUTS FOR BAIT A FEW TIMES I WAS SHAT ON BY SEAGULLS AND PIGIONS . THE LAST THING I EVER THOUGHT OF WOULD BE A KILLER BIRD FLU .WHICH LEADS ME TO ASK DO YOU THINK THE BIRD FLU WAS ALWAYS THERE AND UNDISCOVERED OR IS IT A WAY TO INSTILL FEAR INTO PEOPLE FOR SOME ORGANISATIONS TO MAKE BILLIONS AND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS PRODUCING VACCINES FOR A BIRD FLU THAT WAS ALWAYS THERE . OR DID SOMETHING HAPPEN TO PRODUCE A BRAND NEW DISEASE.??????? :alien2:

The Spanish Flu was the one which killed 25,000,000 to 50,000,000 people worldwide from 1918 - 1919. I don't know anything else about it though.

I grew up on a poultry farm and don't remember ever hearing about bird flu... and you can imagine how much chicken we had to eat. My Grandad is quite the bird expert and he never mentioned it in the past.

I avoid all birds though - they are horrible, disgusting, mean creatures that continually try to hunt me down and hurt me. And no I am not in the least bit paranoid.

Apparently bird flu is not uncommon, but the strain going around at the moment is the deadly one, and has the potential to mutate into the human strain

It's actually called the H5N1 virus or Avian Flu, it is not the same as the Spanish Flu at all. The media have this virus so hyped up it's not funny.
People can carry this virus and are doing so in Asia and not suffering any ill effects at all.

The World Health Organisation have recorded four people that have contracted this virus via human to human contact. Two of them being nurses working in remote Asian hospitals that have little if any hygiene or sanitary conditions. The other two were children that were in the same shack as a sick relative. All four survived after a dose of antibiotics.

There have been sixty deaths recorded from actually catching the H5N1 virus from eating sick or dead chickens or ducks, in a country with a population of over four thousand million people!

Yes it will be the next plague...

You're more likely to be hit by a bus than catch the Avian flu. However if the media have it their way we'll all stay in our houses hiding from birds and if they don't kill us terrorists will.

Think of the Ebola virus. Nasty one that, mutated from monkeys, not birds... and that one eats your insides till they are mush and you die. Takes up to around 5 days for you to cark it. No known cure, and very rare for people to survive it.

I rescued a bird a few weeks ago and got Parrot Flu... not nice.

Actually plenty of people survive Ebola, otherwise we would all be dead from it.
Ebola "burns out" because as it infects other people, the strain becomes weaker, the further you are from patient zero, the better your chances of survival.

Ebola is a very primitive viral disease, hence why it doesnt adapt well as it infects other hosts. And as its a viral disease there is no known cure for it, as there isnt for any other viral disease to date.

Treatment for Ebola is purely pallative.

LuvvinmyEB - thanks for the informative post. All ive heard about H5N1 has been from the media and even then i tend to tune out or find something to do which is actualy worthy of my time!

Yesterday a bird flew in front of my car, I felt terrible. I got to work and told a workmate and he said somehting like "you've just saved SA from the bird flu, it's all good". Made me feel much better atleast haha.

We do the maintenance for Baiada Poultry in Nth Laverton, and boy are they taking this seriously... They're killing over 20,000 chooks a day there!

Rodderz that smell is a combination of Pridhams & Vic hides & skins. Pridhams on a nice hot North winderly day is pure fragrant perfume to the nasal passages!
