Someone is touching my car !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Every day the mirrors on my car are getting moved fully outwards by some grubby little fingers. I know it isn't the end of the world but it has taken a lot of work to buy a GT and I don't need anyone touching it. I am a reasonably popular teacher so I am a little surprised they don't respect the GT but I suppose they could be keying it if they were vindictive.

What can i do? I have considered wasting a school day in a bird hide in the carpark, placing a sniper on the roof of the A Block,hiring a private investigator to photograph them doing it ,smearing superglue on the mirrors, some form of electrification, silver nitrate to dye their little thumbs black, keep the windows openand buy an attack cobra but these aren't feasible or legal options.

Is it possible to get a mini cam running off the lighter jack placed on the sun visor to record these little fellows vandalising my pride and joy? Can it broadcast to a laptop in the boot or to our school's wireless network so i can nab them? Come on amateur detectives!

I am failing to see the funny side of their little prank. Power mirrors can only take so much manual adjustment before something gives or they scratch my car with their school bag. More importantly the kids need to learn a lesson before they try it on a Harley on the street without the protection of their school and a teacher who can only use psychology for discipline instead of a toe up the ****!

You can set up a camera in the car, you could probably get one that runs off the 12v cigarette lighter socket.

Only other option is to drive a crap car to work.

Why are kids allowed in the teachers car park??

The school my kids go to they are not allowed anywhere near the car park where the teachers park the car.

How about an announcement at school assembly? Other teachers having the same problem?? High school or primary school???

My option would be a special forces marine with a high powered sniper rifle in the roof of a near by building.....one shot one kill!!!

This should sort it out

Whilst on the subject, I wonder how far removed this comment is to the seemingly humurous comments probably made by a dozen Colombine High school kids and their ilk, before it all became a little less funny.....totally stupid!!!!

I remember there was a thread a few months ago where someone caught a guy reverse into their car, I don't remember who it was but I think it was a Moderator. Could have possibly been Pearly, maybe ask him about his set-up?

You have several options that you have mentioned , yes a wireless ap with replay to your network , an inboard dvr and camera or do nothing , personally I would source a suitable dvr and camera connected to a prepay cell phone and have it contact you so you may connect and watch live , only needs doing once

having a hidden camera in a car anywhere near a school might be taken out of context. maybe try parking it somewere else?

i will have to ring the minister of education and have him view the footage with me

i have emailed the other teachers and 4 other cars are being done regularly too but perhaps others who can't drive for crap haven't noticed that their mirrors were done in week 1!
i only have my GT so not driving it isn't an option plus i don't like losing

I will see the I.T bloke and see what he can do. I like those cams Prasac uses in his drag car too. I could show you guys the people who try to crash into me on our mean streets on a regular basis. Maybe i could start some sort of "Top Gear" for pensioners

As long as images aren't available to the public I think the law is still on the side of the 'goodies' when mischief is involved. I will check with the boss first whatever happens.

With the Jackass Generation the way it is, putting a camera in the car and actually telling them you've done it will only lead to them dong more so that they get themselves recorded.

Have you tried parking your car in another location? Additionally, I'm surprised the school actually allows the kids to access the teachers car park, Our kids primary school had a segregated car park, the kids weren't allowed to access it. At the high school they're at now, the teacher's car park is a no go area for students.

Exactly what I would be doing, just get a fake one made up from bits of plastic, paint it black, add some wires. Done.
The little kids won't know the difference but I am guessing they won't try it again when they know they are being watched (kind of)

This is possible to do, you’d need at the very least a 16 GB card which would give you around six hours of recording time before it starts overlapping, but you’d have to have a constant 12 Volt supply. If you don’t want to tamper with the car’s electrics and have a nice clean battery you can put on the floor, it’s quite easy and you’d have the little bugger on 1280 x 720 widescreen HD.

I know how you feel,i have just finished one of the BER public school jobs on the northern beaches as a construction supervisor,my black pursuit 250 was continously used as a black board by the young ones,could never catch them.I guess i encouraged them a bit by having a dirty car sometimes
Ended up building a compound out of ATF fencing just for my car .

None of the teachers seemed to own dark coloured cars LOL.

sadly, NSW Public Schools are going down the drain.. I attend Wyong High, and it bloody sucks with the amount of rude students who dont give a rats about anyone else's car..

The school has tried to do everything to stop them from walking anywhere near them, but its impossible these days.. Im in year 10, and I can tell you now, nothing can be done unless you hire security guards, get the cops to sit around looking for the ones who cause the malicious damage, or create secure parking where only people with their own security tag can access it.

Same here (but i finished up last year and went to a real dodgy school). The rules were set, the punishments were set but people still wander through the carpark....Lost cause...

If the punishment was a flogging instead of afterschool detention, would you think these sort of things would still happen?

A few thoughts....

Maybe it's not a student? Could be another teacher that has a beef against you and always parks near you.

Pay a responsible student leader to watch your car before and after school.

Come to school in the morning a bit later or leave a little earlier at the end of the day, if the mirrors arent touched, you've narrowed the time frame down when its occurring and would be easier to plan the next stage to catch them red-handed.
As there are other teachers who are regularly affected, could be a case for a request to the Dept to install a camera for the whole car park. But I doubt you would want to wait 5 years for that to be approved...
