Default Tinting

Looking to get the Ghia tinted. Have no idea what a half decent tint is worth nowadays. What sort of price am I looking at?

I'm not after DARK dark, just something reasonable. And it'll have to be non-metallic with the rear window antenna.

I have a local Tint A Car and a Solartint, as well as a couple of small businesses. Any opinions on those two major companies?

Any suggestions much appreciated

3M makes by far the best tint available, non metallic also, not as easy to work with as other tints and usually a bit more expensive, looks a lot 'blacker' than all the other brands

What sort of $$$ have you all paid?

Well I guessed that. I just wanted to get an idea what others here have paid, to ensure I don't get ripped off, as is often the case in my area.

I thought about doing it myself, then thought too much stuffing around.

Well, my ute cost me 180 bucks at mates rates. I live in Gladstone so everything is expensive here. For a sedan I can't see it costing more than 250. Anything more than that and I'll go elsewhere.

They use to have a branch in Belmont, thats who done my old SSV Wagon, great job and it was only $300, think they moved though to either Bennets Green or GatesHead...

If you are keeping the car long term get a quality tint from a known, established company that offers a long warranty. I think some go to 10 years.

There are cheaper options that will tint a whole car for as low as $150 but these don't tend to last long, perhaps 2-3 years.

Agreed, I get mine done where I know they do a good job, and put the trims etc back properly. Going by the cheapest you can find, you may well end up not being happy with the work done. So find out what sort of job your local Tint a Car does, and see what he charges for the tint you want. Mine was done at my local Tint a car, they did a good job as they usually do and cost me $345.

Go with a larger outfit like tint a car, tintmaster, the key is telling them you want a perfect job, that way hopefully they get the point, I used to be in the game and have seen some horrid efforts, lifetime warranty tints are the norm now days
Yeh unless you know what your doin avoid doing it yourself bit trickier than it seems

Try Gumtree! you might find people advertising for window tinting!

It will be under $300 for sure if someone does it privately.

I got a tint at Wollongong tint-a-car for roughly $390. They seemed to have done a good job with no issues 14 months later.
And importantly, you get Qantas FF points from tint-a-car. After another 69 tints, I'll get one return flight from Syd to Melb. :-)

Just went to my local Tint A Car. $299 for the Octane "darkest legal tint". There was an FG XR6 there just being finished off with the same stuff. Looked really nice, but wasn't all THAT dark. So am going to just go with this as it's a good price and he seemed like a good bloke doing the job.

I've have tint a car midnight express, octane and a illegal darkness one. Currently on Bolle tint from tint a car. Non metallic, best visibility and I notice a big difference in the sun coming through on my face. Heaps better. It is the most expensive but it is worth it imo.

$300.00 15% all windows except front on a Territory and that was done by one of the best in the industry in W.A using quality film with a lifetime guarantee...

As said before, stick with quality installers, some are as dodgy as, trying to "stick" your trim back on after they stuff it up

Yea, Tint-A-Car appears to be a nationwide company. They have a lifetime warranty, so at $300, I'm sold.

A lot of new cars & some older ones have factory tint. So what's wrong with that? It's just a matter of time before you wind a window down & the tint rips. So why bother. If it's privacy you want then stay in the house & draw the curtains!

I'm not sure what you're trying to say to be honest

But I want tint because my car has none. I want it for looks, to keep some heat/UV out and for a little extra privacy.

hmmmm........................ really ?

apart from the newer wagons that have "privacy glass" on the rear windows the only factory tint is a very light stain that is hardly noticable and non of these "tints" give any real protection against UV light witch is what destroys the cars interior and burns the occupants skin. no car manufacturers use tint film on their windows any tint sold through dealerships is just an aftermarket add on mostly at hugely inflated prices.

if the film is fitted properly and a good quality film used you should get at least 10 years out of it or i would be pretty disappionted.
