Default Ghia5L gets a GLi4L

Ladies & Fells.
Got me an EF wagon yesterday

$2.6k with 12 months rego. The seller did most of the RWC stuff & left a couple of big things (windscreen, exhaust, 2 tyres) for me to do. She's pretty tidy but has a few scratches on the passenger side rear 1/4 & the tailgate, and that touch-up spot on the front bar.

285,000kms old; aircon, heater hoses, brakes, head & headgasket were done 3 months ago, and she drives beautifully. VERY quiet compared to the EB lol

Well, it's going to be my workcar, and it'll be my "tent" at Glenmaggie

Future plans are LPG, cruise, a futura clock, and maybe tint. And now my EB is retired from daily duties! w00t :

roffle :P Thanks for all your replies!

No lowering, I'm honouring Dezza here. (no turboing either Joe!) Oh and if any of you blokes going to Glenmaggie have girlfriends (or hot mums or sisters or cousins) who whinge about cold tents, they're welcome to stay in my wagon since my gf isn't coming :P

Looking forward to seeing the hearse Johndose

Just a couple of quick questions:

1) Can replacement tibbe keys be bought, or blanks cut? The wagon only came with one :(

2) How bout replacement smartlock remotes? Mine is crap, the button doesn't work properly (it works but you forever have to mash your thumb over the button til it works). I've opened her up & she's got a fresh battery in her, and the circuit is clean & dust/crap free but the button switch is "discoloured". The rubber button cover with the nipple on the underside is in perfect nick, so methinks it's all down to the discoloured microswitch being crap.

I don't think the EB likes the wagon, I parked the wagon next to it this morning & the EB's alarm went off. Backed the wagon away, and the alarm stopped :P Jealous *****!

*edit* oh, and that MOE sticker on the tailgate will be removed!

*edit2* John, those e-series stickers that I bought off you a while ago will end up on the wagon actually ;)

Well personally I would've been more concerned if the EB "transformed" and beat the Autobot EF into a pulp. Damn xenophobic Decepticons. And mine's black!

Nice Dave, but I'd say you will still be "pitching a tent" at Glenmaggie regardless of the new wagon.

Wayne: sweet, I'll probably look up fordmods tonight, chances are the procedure for the remote is on there. Time to pick up little bits & pieces off ebay

Alas, I fear it'll be a "one man" tent. Which, despite sounding less gay than a "two/many man" tent, still makes me sound like a loser with an oversized muscle on the outside of my elbow and biased grip capabilities.

Jack: come to Glenmaggie :P Yep, I'll definitely be putting a lot of research into gas kits now, wish I lived closer to melbourne where LPG fitters would be more competitive. But you never know, there might be a really cheap fitter here in the valley.

Top effort Dave, they are a bargain indeed. The LPG conversions are particularly good value at the moment too, thanks to the rebate.

Dave i just had the el converted to gas, it was done at liveessy's in morwell, i jumped the que due to my dad having his car done before and i was a sound referal, i'm thinking if you name drop you might be able to get your conversion done quicker and you might avoid the 3 - 5 month waiting list, and it was the cheapest in the valley and geelong ($2,450, i think), i felt it was worth the 3hr drive in the end.

Livesey's Motor Works? lol that's a 2 minute walk from my place :P

I'll definitely contact them, I'm hoping a wagon isn't much more expensive to convert due to the halfsize petrol tank & gas tank cradle & spare wheel bracket & all the other shizzle that the sedans don't cop. No matter what though it's getting LPG'd.

Thanks for the hot tip Shaneos!

you should be able to still get a scuba tank (3 smaller tanks joined together) which perfectly fits inside the whole spare wheel well, keeping a full sized petrol tank.

they're what ford fitted on the factory systems

The scuba tanks are a very neat solution, though from memory capacity is 55 litres or so.

Meh, capacity/travel range isn't an issue with me, and not changing the petrol tank sounds cheaper :P

Thanks for the info!

*edit* Danflange, I actually did a straight swap with a bloke called Sid from Footscray for his 650,000km VLT (white duco with grey bars, half the front bar is missing due to an offset-numberplate mod that went wrong) with ALLAH numberplates. It came with a roady from his mechanic mate, but no rego or VIN number. They told me I should be able to chase up those things no worries.

Sounds mint.

Give you $50 for the ALLAH plates?

Just a couple of quick questions:

1) I took the car for its first decent (130km) drive today. I noticed that it ticks when the engine is warm. Is this simply a case of using oil that isn't thick enough, or are there other things that may be the culprit in a 4.0?

1a) If it's just oil, what's the recommended viscosity?

2) Whenever I apply the brakes at a moderate rate, there's a dull metallic "tap" from the passenger side wheel area. Is this normal? The car brakes fine with no shudders, pulling, or lack of effectiveness.

3) The footwell vents are crap when the heater is on (unless the fan is up high). Is this normal, like some ventilation design oversight or something? I put my hand down there to check and yes, they do blow out hot air, but I think they blow the air straight down rather than out on an angle. I like to drive with my feet warm in the winter

4) Well, it's not really a question, but no post of mine is complete without the word flange in it. Flange.
