Default Insurance renewal time

I'm driving my FPV less and less these days, lucky to do 1000kms per year.
But I'm still paying for full comprehensive insurance.
Anyone found insurance that covers late model cars with limited use?
Any suggestions how I can maintain cover but reduce my premiums?
Cheers.

I done my next door neighbor for him and the cheapest I could get for him was Real Insurance and they were by far the cheapest, don't know how good they are though.

Wow, thanks guys!
Just did an online quote with Real Insurance and it's exactly what I was looking for.
It allows you to nominate how many kms you think you'll do in a year and also agreed value.

I am also with Real Insurance as i do minimal K's in my BA GT. It costs me around $400 for $20,000, told them i was only doing about 2000k's a year but found i used more than that so called them to up the K limit and they bumped it up to 4000k's at no extra cost so was pretty happy with that, as for making a claim well luckily that is yet to happen.
Cheers

Did the online quote too. The standard insurance is about what I pay with QBE, but with them it's market value rather than agreed value, and that's with the agreed value pumped up to more than 10k over what I paid for the car.

The pay as you drive is even cheaper.

Would definitely be interested to hear of any experience people have had with claims.
I've had to claim twice with QBE, car written off in a storm (they gave me a fair price) and other driver at fault, and while there's been no problem with them paying me out or fixing my car, I did have to chase them to actually do things (like call the at fault driver so I didn't have to pay excess).

Smile Re: Insurance renewal time

I was with pensioners insurance APIA for 10 years
and had an agreed value on a Territory Ghia for $20000
the next year it came back as $15000
and the following year it came back at $9000
they kept dropping the agreed value without any consultation with me and each year the pay by the month went up
and also the excess all this with a rating one
so I switched to Suncorp and they would only give me market value $9000
but the payments by the month were cut in half
the strange thing is APIA is owned by Suncorp so go figure John

Just did the Real Insurance quote as well - same as what I'm paying with Coles. BUT no mods at all allowed. So if you have anything as mild as exhaust or air intake then you are not covered in the event of a claim. Don't even think about a tune.

Be very careful.

I just did quote with Real Insurance. Maximum agreed value is $14950.

Now in the case of a writeoff, where can I find a replacement XR50 manual (or even auto) sedan with 67,000kms for $14950? Just like the other insurance companies using Glass Redbook etc for valuations, they are out of touch with XR50 values.

Why can't comprehensive insurance cover my car so I can replace it with a similar car if the worst happens?

And the quote was about the same as Coles, even though I only do 10,000kms max. per year. And both insurers require repairs to be done at their repairer.

I think I'll stick with my current insurer.

I recently got insurance for my FGX G6ET.

Progressive were $1000 cheaper than everywhere else! And that's with low $500 excess, and a HIGH agreed value ($5k more than I paid for it). You also tell them how many kms a year you do. I do 40,000km a year

Check out Shannon's or Youi car insurance and see what they can offer you. I'm with RACQ myself and even though my car is a garage queen I maintain comprehensive insurance cover on it because there are just too many crazy drivers out there on the road. I was with Budget Direct on my ute but I switched coverage for this vehicle to RACQ because the premiums were the same cost.

Cheers, Brent

Im with Shannons...pay by the month, agreed value and limited use...we have 6 cars, so they all cant be driven at the same time...have had 2 claims since 2006, and both were handled perfectly...couldnt recommend them highly enough...oh, they also have our house and contents...

Agreed Shannons are excellent with claims. Unfortunately I've had to claim on the WRX and the house but they were all handled perfectly.

I'm with RACQ for my XR50 as Shannons wanted $900 and RACQ only charge me about $460.

And I am looking at moving my house and contents to RACQ as well as they are 1/2 price compared with Shannons. The WRX will remain with Shannons due to its modifications.

Are you happy with the agreed value on your XR50 superfly? Would you be able to replace it with another if the worst happens?

The problem I'm having is the insurance companies go by Glass' Redbook etc. for valuations, where the maximum they allow is some $1000's lower than for a reasonable XR50 advertised for sale. I can't insure my car for anywhere near replacement value.

I have 3 classics with Ryno. great service and price. My FGX XR8 is with AAMI with an average 5000km year use. It was $490 PA with a 58 grand agreed value.

I'm sure I'm on market value so if the time came where they had to replace my car, they can find one on the market and replace it with that At what ever the cost happens to be.

Or give me enough money to get a Focus RS

I'm with Youi, they allow all mods and you only pay for what use the vehicle gets, so you should save a bundle with such limited use

I asked youi recently about the cost of upgrading intake, intercooler and tune and they quoted $6 extra per month. I'll report back to see how that's changed when I actually get the parts installed and call them again. I'll also check what my colour my car is on their system

Don't go with youi, if you pick up a lady of the night and she steals your car they won't cover you. I don't know about you but that is an absolute deal breaker for me.

when i renew (after my GT is registered again) i'll go with enthusiasts motor insurance
currently with shannons laid up but shannons don't want to insure my car for what i think its worth, however they insured my bike for $16k and later upped it to $18000 without me asking but dropped my GT by $2k

I'm with Shannons for the XC and bundled in 2 other family cars.
Beauty with Shannons is if the XC is written off they have given me the option of buying the wreck, because I have enough spare parts/panels stashed away to hopefully fix it.
Or I can supply the parts so it doesn't get written off, works for me.
