I got my insurance renewal and its gone up $130 ! no claims in 5 years.
I did a few quotes and found Budget Direct and Youi are the same ? Minimum excess $1150! $40 excess on windscreen claim even if I take out the optional windscreen cover ! Agreed car value is $11850 for both? Car sales has it at $15100. RACQ its $14,000. I rang my current insurer and they wont lower my premium. I am going with RACQ its $100 cheaper than last years premium with my current insurer. I rang Shannons and I dont meet their criteria. Other insurers premiums are over $1,000! An investigation is needed into insurance companies.

This is why my daily is a cheap crap box, $14 a month for 3rd party fire and theft.
My weekenders are cheap at $48 a month with limited kms. Everyone has to have newer cars, which is fine for those that can afford it and don't whinge about it. By the time you take into account servicing and insurance costs, it all adds up. Mine are practicially free and i've saved 10's of thousands over the last years doing it this way. Shop around and choose a company you are comfortable with. They aren't going to be investigated so no point bleating about that.

What part of the Shannon’s criteria was apparently not fulfilled? I’d have a crack at them on social media if they’re being silly like that.

But older cars tend to need more repairs and maintenance. If you are a mechanic or mechanically handy well and good. If you are useless mechanically like me I prefer a new car and run it say 120000kms. |

yep Insurance companies are major fraudsters nowadays more than ever before.
What is the vehicle csv8 ? Got to say under todays price rise's 130 isn't that bad to me but I don't your situation. I find most renewals rise's are higher what I'm dealing with also very picky what they insure. fordo, always the wise one

We are all paying for the idiots who fill their garages full of crap and park their cars on the street to get written off in the next " climate change " induced storm/flood.
My car insurance has doubled in the last 3 years. I have 3 vehicles, one on 3rd party only, and I'm about to drop the full comp on one of the others back to 3rd party only as well. I Imagine a lot of others will be doing the same with cheaper vehicles and can see the insurance company's jacking the price of 3rd party only insurance in the near future.

My fleet has aged as I no longer see the appeal in newer vehicles. My older ones tick the boxes sufficiently and I’m not in a situation where there would be taxation benefits. I note in NSW that green slips can cost more if you only have third party insurance on a car.
My biggest discovery/disappointment has been in the thread not posted many hours before this one, re the cost to just paint a bumper. It means a lot of “us” who tote older vehicles, are likely to be chronically under-insured if we accept a nominal value proposed by the insurer. I plan to push this up and expect a solid rise in premium to follow. Human nature is interesting; we put more time into secondary research (like which new phone to buy) than refining decisions with far greater fiscal impact. |

Dont forget the rampant car theft of the current generation of untouchables.
Also has anyone tried getting a panel beater, mechanic or spare parts from Ford lately... I can see why it costs more to fix cars. Had 2 Suncorp policies go up by $200, no claims. Go online and they offer $50 off for internet policy? FFS I am ALREADY your customer, give ME $50 off! So rang Shannons and $350 less. AAI owns both companies (and many others too)...go figure. |

Just be careful, you get what you pay for, I know we are all trying to save a dollar, but not all policies are equal and their PDS are all different to what they cover you for, remember when you pay the premium you are agreeing to their terms.
I have seen all sorts of shonky $#!t when it comes to what they cover and what they don't cover, if you can use your own repairer, modifications, aftermarket add on's coverage, how they come up with their market value etc, read the PDS before you hand over the $$, I know most of us don't until its too late. |

They always seem to creep up the price of renewals to see if you will pay it with out checking. Often if you get a quote from the same company online, it can be cheaper than the renewal.

From memory Budget Direct and Shannon's are part of Suncorp.
I checked Youi in the past and there were not cheap for a daily driver. |

Youi will only insure anything low risk, hence all the questions. I insured once with them, never again. They are not that cheap.
I have my old cars with Enthusiasts Motor Insurance and my other cars with Woolworths Insurance who are underwritten by Hollards. Caravan with RACV Insurance I prefer to steer away from Australia's Insurance duopoly of Suncorp and IAG, they own most of the insurance brands in Australia

If i try online i cant get it insured for anything close to what i have now. But for the most part you are correct. My policy went up a lot more than the OP's, infact 4 times more. I did get another quote from somewhere else, i just havnt taken it up.

My wife was able to insure our daily drive Mazda 6 with Shannons because she has done a high performance track day and defensive driver training. Also mentioned she wants an AMG one day and they were more than happy to insure it. If your not really an enthusiast and into cars (or at least didn't convey that to them) then that may be reason why you were denied?
We also had a 'not at fault' claim done through Shannons not long ago and they were really good to deal with.
