Hey guys.
Looking at getting an AU series 2 or 3 on lpg. Just wondering if you guys recommend an amount of km`s thats good. As in dont buy one with 200,000 which i wouldnt. I was hoping to get one form an auction with under 130,000 on lpg and in good nick for like 7k but its not gonna happen! My budget is about 7500. I was thinking to try and get one with under 150 and i will be modding it and dont want to blow any guts thats left right out of it. cheers

LPG + low k's will add a premium on top of a cheap car. Browse through classifieds as well as the auctions, might find a bargain.

I'd be going for one that's not on gas, and use the 2k govt rebate, plus the 1k that WA give as well and convert that way!
As for kays, up until recently I've always been a low kays is always better type of person, but my AU now has 180k on the clock and still drives really well. It is still tighter and in better nick than a VX that is used to own with 45k on the clock. At the end of the day, if it's been looked after, well maintained and driven gently, then relatively high kays aren't a bad thing.

slightly higher Ks in not a big issue for a gas car they don't wear anywhere near as quick as a petrol engine if u look after them i've seen cabs get 800 to 900 k and still going strong when retired the trick is maintenance

Cabs last ages because many of them stay running 24 hrs a day with multiple drivers so don't have the warm up cool down processes our cars have. LPG can be harsher on an engine because it is less lubricating than petrol.

For a series 2 or 3 with good kays on gas, I think you're going to struggle a bit on your budget. You could probably do it here if you looked around, but from what I understand WA prices are higher than the eastern states?

Predict the E series as basicly forgotten, and the AU will be for the most part bypassed with the BA becoming the new E Unless its a ute or similar in th A series the only real treasures will be the tickfords ( xr's and Tseries ) Back in my box |

And I think you will find a lot of people will be holding onto their LPG vehicles and not selling them ... something to do with petrol prices me thinks as well.
My factorty LPG AUII ute is now at 220,000km and runs like a dream ... but by no means quick either ... the only way to make these things quick is to boost them really. So don't expect a powerhouse (even with slight mods). They were designed for one thing only ... cheap transportation. That's about all. But it suits me perfectly for what I do ... and how far i travel ... and has saved me a lot of money in running costs.

I wanna do it on gas because its cheaper to run and i can prove and rub it in to all these guys that say gas sucks and cant make power. trick_xd has an EL on gas extractors exhaust CAI and a cam and he pulled a 15.2 with a buggered auto. Now from me going into the 15`s from what my VC is doing which is 18`s 19`s thats a big difference.
Also seeing the VN SS pulled 15.5 down the quater im happy! Im not looking for 13`s or 14`s maybe high 14`s at most. Be good to blow the doors off those krappy little P plater around the place. Want a car with alot more poke than the VC cheaper to run which i dont think is hard! And enough guts to have a bit of fun in? The VC atm is doing 27L per 100kmh. Costing me a fortune to run. 350kms for like 70 bucks and now more because fuels hit $1.40 a litre! And i will probably end up getting another bike eventually so.

Of course we get plenty of lively opinion as well! Cheers and all the very best with a good purchase. The AU won't disappoint. GK

Doing rough approximations is a bit different from gross exaggeration. For example, at say $1.25 a litre, $70 gets you 56 litres of fuel. 56 litres of fuel over 350 km's gives you 16l/100km - slightly different from the 27l/100 you're claiming...
