It's a wonder this amazing effort hasn't been more newsworthy, especially considering the Aussie input! (A Sydney company built the thing)
The dive actually happened yesterday. Imagine 16,500 PSI.. That's over 7 tons per sq inch! He is just the 3rd person (and the 1st solo) to go to this depth... Anyhow.. check the website.. Quite incredible I reckon? http://deepseachallenge.com/the-sub/

Yep - this is a pretty amazing achievement really...
Can't wait to see the footage that they release... It will be like an alien landscape - something so pure that has NEVER ever been seen by humans before, and possibly never will again (given it cost James Cameron $30mil to get this far)... The nerd inside of me is very impressed with this adventure...

I love this stuff!!
I was listening to an audio book on the history of science driving home on the highway today, and they said on this very subject: "We have better and more detailed maps of the surface of Mars than we do of the sea floor of our own planet"... Can't wait to see the footage in full. |
