Back in the 60's in Liverpool UK, my dad worked at 5 different jobs to support us, his day job and 4 different service stations, 2 at night in the week and daytime on weekends.
First time I ever saw him fix a tubeless puncture, couldn't believe my eyes, realising they had no tubes like a push bike, or motorbike, or dads old bomb, and I remember him fixing a torn tyre that was dumped at one of the servo's, near brand new, he brought it home and had a vulcanising patch, I watched intently as he did it and let me light the match, wow, the things you learn as a kid, and outside I saw him put molten rubber and smooth it out with a flame heated soldering iron, then you use the tube, every tube on his tyres were black with pink patches!......
