To me a Merc is a Ford & a Benz is a Mercedes Benz. If you abbreviate Mercedes, wouldn't it be Mers ?

No one outside of Ford enthusiasts, and older ones will know about Ford's Mercury brand, it's irrelevant to Australia.

As far as I'm concerned Merc is short for Mercedes Benz.

The only two cars I know in this brand are Cougar XR-7 and Maurader based on the last Crown Vic.
