Cool. I felt it was a shame to junk the car for superficial damage when it's mechanically sound. Is this to re-register it and keep driving despite the dings?

If you did want to improve the appearance you could always try your hand at Paintless Dent Removal. As a hobby it should keep you fairly busy
In all seriousness though, I've been looking into it to fix some dings on my Mondy and I believe it would only take a cheap PDR glue pull kit off eBay and some patience to get quite reasonable results. Admittedly I'm not faced with doing the whole expanse of my roof though...
