You can upload images directly to your forum post, but the space allowance isn't much.
Hosting the image on another service such as Google Photos as you've done there is a fine approach, you just need to make sure you have the image/album set to public or create a sharable link. I'm guessing the link you posted earlier is to a private image (the default setting) so you just need to find the option to set the image public or create a link for sharing.
