Thanks victor1 and kevino for your replies. Would be very interested in how kevino gets along with anything done to your gearbox and how it turns out.
I was just about to do something about my car's gearbox but yesterday someone backed into the car and did some minor damage. My car goes in to the panel shop in 2 weeks time and when I get the car back I will do something more about the gear box.
