It's generally well known (amongst Ford-ites) that EUCD and CD3 will move to a common platform for the next generation mid sizer. Not sure whether the Mazda 6 is part of this now but there is no reason why Fusion and Mondeo can't share a platform.

But yes, one has to wonder at whether the US can do a better job than European R&D centres. I do believe FoA has had some input into this next-gen platform too...
