Hello, Great to see you doing up an escort, i had a very hot 2ltr years ago and found with very high compression and an upjetted standard carb i was easily able to leave everything at the lights, ran out of breath at 190k but would do 100 in under 7sec.
I myself would like another escort pref a Mk1 but i am not so sure i want to get my hands dirty any more, be sure and get the crank dowled as the std bolts arent quite enough and do break.
Look up Puma race engines online they have some great info on the Pinto, i have heard of 200 rwhp N/A in some cases which is awesome power per litre, you would need to bore it to 2391cc..which is 93mm bore to achive very high outputs and for road use most likely not relevent unless you want an animal.
Of course you can go for a nissan engine like a sr20 which would give u 300 rwhp, but you would need a nissan gearbox and very strong diff, there is a Mk1 cortina with this set up that runs 11.5 and is a daily driver, of course expect to pay 15large to get this set up in an Escort.
